How does it work?
Therapy is about people connecting and forming relationships. In working existentially, I seek to listen to my clients and tune in for moments which value the inter-connectedness inherent in the relationship between us. Our worlds meet in our joint exploration of emotional truth. Truth is a revelation, from one?s centre.
Therapy can be useful in gaining insight into what we are doing with ourselves. Are we truthfully creating a work which uncovers our being? Are we perpetuating or avoiding static patterns of behaviour and thought? I seek to help my clients explore what is happening and what role they can play in changing or accepting where and who they are.
The first session takes the form of a thorough assessment, where I find out what the current issues are, take a personal history and together we set goals for the therapy. In cases where there is past trauma and/or anxiety, I will also explore ways of dealing with the trauma symptoms, including relaxation, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), resource building and stress reduction.
